market wednesday!

today i woke up and got to the market at 7am, which is when it officially opens. it's been ninety and higher these last days, and it was relatively cool for the ride down. nice change. because of the heat i had left-over potatoes and sweet potatoes and onions from last week that i just couldn't bear to turn on the the stove or burners to cook, so i decided to get fruit instead this week.

1/2 peck cortland apples - $5
concord grapes - $3
quart white peaches - $4
plums - $3
eggs - $3
peppers - $2

so much delicious fruit!

i got up so early because last night i got a message from my friend asking if i wanted to go on a crazy one-day roadtrip. he has to go pick up his transcript from his old college in rochester, ny because the one they sent got lost in the mail and eastern is being fussy. but if he can hand them a copy, everything will be okay. today is the last day of my four day weekend. i spent yesterday having small scale adventures - the backyard, our block, the places i always forget to see. today should be good for the opposite, and i am going to pack that car full of delicious fruit.

Grapes, how cool! Not sure I ever saw them at the market. Weirdly, none of the vendors at my neighborhood farmer's market seem to sell eggs. Also, in DC, prices are per pound instead of by item or amount (like quart). Different.

I used to live in Rochester & Ithaca when my dad attended Cornell. Hope you enjoy your brief jaunt upstate!
